Brent Beesley, Vice-Chairman
Brent Beesley is Chairman & CEO of Heritage Bank, St. George, Utah. He holds a BA in Economics from BYU and an MBA and JD from Harvard University. During the 1970s, he practiced with the Salt Lake City law firm of Ray, Quinney and Nebeker and taught business and real estate law at the University of Utah.
During the savings and loan crisis in the early 1980s, Beesley was the Director of the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC), Washington, D.C.
Beesley was an early advocate of risked-based deposit insurance premiums, market-value accounting and financial institutions measuring and reporting their exposure to interest-rate risk. He has testified before Congress on numerous occasions, and many of his recommendations have been adopted in current banking laws and regulations.
During the crisis in agricultural credit in the mid-1980s, he was the President & CEO of the Farm Credit Corporation of America (FCCA), Denver, Colorado. FCCA was the central entity of the nationwide Federal Farm Credit System. In 1986, the System had already foreclosed on over 13,000 farms and ranches and was losing about $600 million per month. Beesley was hired to provide the leadership to develop and implement policies and practices within the System reverse the losses. When Beesley left FCCA in 1988, over 10,000 loans had been restructured and the System had returned to profitability.
Beesley enjoys most outdoor sports. He is married to Bonnie Jean Matheson Beesley. They have seven children and reside in Salt Lake City, Utah.
