Former Republican Rep. Allen West is leaving Florida for Dallas to head a free-market think tank.

Outspoken conservative West will be CEO of the National Center for Policy Analysis, which advocates “private alternatives to government regulation and control” on issues such as health care, retirement and the environment.

West was elected in 2010 to represent a Palm Beach-Broward congressional district. After the redistricting of 2012, he moved to Palm Beach Gardens and ran in a Palm Beach-Treasure Coast district but lost in 2012 to Democrat Patrick Murphy in the year’s costliest House race.

West has remained active in politics as a Fox News contributor and head of the Allen West Guardian Fund PAC, which has raised and spent more than $3 million to support conservative candidates. He has been mentioned as a potential 2016 candidate for president or for the seat of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio if Rubio runs for president.
