Alphonso Jackson
Deputy Secretary, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

As deputy secretary, Alphonso Jackson serves as HUD's chief operating officer, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the $32 billion agency whose mission is to provide affordable housing and promote community and economic development.
Jackson was president and CEO of the Dallas Housing Authority from 1989 to 1996. Previously he was director of the Department of Public and Assisted Housing in Washington D.C., chairman of the District of Columbia Redevelopment Land Agency Board, public safety director for the city of St. Louis and executive director for the St. Louis Housing Authority. Before assuming the HUD position, Secretary Jackson was president of American Electric Power – Texas.
He has served on numerous boards, including JP Morgan Chase & Co., Texas; Dallas Citizens Council; and the Dallas Metropolitan and U.S. Chambers of Commerce. He was chairman of the General Services Commision of Texas in 1995-98. In 2001, he received the AFLAC Lifetime Achievement Award.
Jackson holds a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's degree in education from Truman State University and a law degree from Washington University.
