Tabtor, a mash-up of “tablet tutor” is a new mathematics tutoring app for the iPad. For $50 a month, Tabtor connects kids who use the app to a tutor who grades their work, identifies areas that need improvement, and checks in through voice messages and a weekly video call.
Personalized attention, feedback on their work, and a personal connection—all through the iPad, and all worked around the kid’s schedule.
Programs like Tabtor are not a replacement for teachers. In fact, Tabtor sells its software to schools, allowing teachers to provide more personalized instruction to their students. But these programs do make the tutoring process a whole lot easier.
With programs like Tabtor, teachers gain the flexibility to adapt lessons to the needs of an individual student. For parents using the program outside of schools, Tabtor provides a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to get their children the personalized attention they need to succeed.
Tabtor is not the first company to look for innovative ways to provide students with personalized attention—and hopefully it won’t be the last. Encouraging the use and integration of Tabtor and other similar, innovative programs can eliminate some of the roadblocks between kids and the education they need, particularly in the STEM fields.
