David Horowitz: Radicals Dominate Political Debate

Source: D Magazine

David Horowitz, who was reared by Communist parents and used to be a member of the New Left, now spends his time railing against liberals, leftists and progressives. Sample: “Inside every liberal is a totalitarian screaming to get out.” Horowitz was in Dallas today, flogging his new book, The New Leviathan, at the Glenn Beck studios and later at a luncheon sponsored by the National Center for Policy Analysis. The book’s premise is that left-wing foundations far outweigh their conservative counterparts in bucks and clout, skewing the political debate in favor of radical, Saul Alinsky-like perspectives.

During his talk, Horowitz also tossed out red meat like this zinger on U.S. schools, which he contends promote the idea that “America is a racist, sexist, imperialist, homophobic, Islamophobic society.” On President Obama: “In terms of veracity, Barack Obama makes Bill Clinton seem like a boy scout. I have never seen such mendacity.” On leftists: “They are religious fanatics, because they think they are creating the kingdom of heaven on earth. They see themselves as among the saints,” while the conservatives are devils. Horowitz concluded that, despite all this, he remains optimistic because of grass-roots movements like the tea party, which have sprung up because “people are now scared. You see what the radicals can do, you see that the country is up for grabs–and it is.” I’m not sure, but I don’t think he stopped by the local ACLU office.
