January 22, 1999 – The National Center for Policy Analysis and the Virginia-based Atlas Economic Research Foundation will sponsor two tapings of the syndicated public affairs program DebatesDebates, during Atlas' annual meeting and the NCPA's 15th Anniversary celebration in Dallas this month.
A Warren Steibel production, DebatesDebates will bring together America's foremost experts to participate in formal debates of current public policy issues. Warren Steibel is also executive producer of William F. Buckley's Firing Line.
The two Dallas tapings will feature an international cast of free-market stars debating the United States role in the international community. The first show entitled: "Should the U.S. be Policeman of the World?" features David Davis, Head of the Public Accounts Committee for the House of Commons in Great Britain; Armando Ribas, former Congressman in Argentina; and Roberto Salinas-Leon, Director of Policy Analysis for TV Azteca in Mexico City debating for the affirmative. They will be opposed by Leonard Liggio, Executive Vice President of the Atlas Foundation; and Manuel Ayau, President Emeritus with the Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
The second show, "Should the U.S. Be Banker To The World?" will feature an affirmative team of Armando Ribas and Manuel Ayau. The opposition will be taken up by David Davis and Roberto Salinas-Leon. Both shows will be aired nationally in February at times yet to be determined.
DebatesDebates can be seen in the Dallas area on TCI Cablevision's DCTV three times a week, starting on Sundays at 10:00 a.m. on channel 13B. Each episode is then rebroadcast on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. on channel 27A, and again on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. on channel 13B.
