DALLAS (January 6, 2011) – The new Congress's first act should be to halt the EPA's proposed climate change regulations, according to NCPA Senior Fellow H. Sterling Burnett.
"Congress, and Congress alone, has been given the power in the U.S. Constitution to regular interstate commerce," Dr. Burnett said, "and until Congress decides to take action, the EPA should not be allowed to move forward with its economic policy power grab."
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid last year reneged on his commitment to Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) to allow a vote on Rockefeller's bill to delay EPA greenhouse gas regulations for two years. As a result, the EPA is now moving forward with rules that will raise energy prices even more than the Obama Administration's drilling ban has, and will harm small business the most and put even more Americans out of work.
"Even if science supported the claim that greenhouse gases harm humans," Burnett said, "China, India, Brazil and other growing economies control those emissions, not the EPA."
