Focus Point – Al Gore's Trouble With The Truth

I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis. A New York Times/CBS poll last week showed the majority of voters across the demographic spectrum prefer George W. Bush to Al Gore.

Is it Al Gore's lack of personality? Maybe. But I think it's because he so often — well — lies about things.

Oddly, he lies about things that are easy to check on. That he always supported Roe V. Wade. That Clinton did not support investing some of the Social Security surplus in the stock market. That he voted against tobacco interests after 1984. That he helped write Hubert Humphrey's 1968 convention acceptance speech. That he lives on a farm. That George W. Bush has never had to make up a budget. That he invented the Internet. That he was an infantry officer, not a journalist in Vietnam. That he uncovered the love canal scandal. That, for heaven's sake, he was a model for a character in "Love Story."

Maybe, after eight years of being lied to by the white house people are tired of it.

Those are my ideas, and at the NCPA we know ideas can change the world. I'm Pete du Pont. Next time, the death of civics.
