Focus Point – Bush Vs. Gore

I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis. If Al Gore loses this election, it's not going to be because he has a better grasp of policy than Gov. Bush does, or because he's more experienced, or smarter.

It's because after eight years, Americans are sick of a slick spinner in the white house, and they don't want another one.

Gore just can't stop, can he? Going to Texas on a FEMA trip, which he didn't do. The Florida school story about the student who didn't have a desk. The drug costs for his dog and his mother-in-law.

Other stretches are more substantive. I'm still trying to figure out how raising taxes in 1993 caused the economic boom, or how he'll keep Social Security and Medicare in a lockbox, when anybody knows that's both politically and constitutionally impossible.

No question George W. could be more articulate. But there's a great gulf between mangling a foreign name and mangling the truth. And the American people know it.

Those are my ideas, and at the NCPA we know ideas can change the world. I'm Pete du Pont. Next time, more big government.
