I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis. The Netherlands has passed the termination of life on request and assisted suicide act, which clears physicians who kill patients on request or aid in assisted suicide. It passed the dutch senate just as the annual remembrance of the holocaust began.
The Netherlands thus became the only free nation that permits doctors to kill their patients.
This is an awful concept. All doctors have to prove is that they followed procedures, they're satisfied the patient's suffering was unbearable, and there was no prospect of improvement. Sounds safe, right? But a former dutch senator was helped to die because he believed he was living a "pointless and empty existence." In other words, God wasn't in the room, so the doctor filled in.
And it's worse than that. Euthanasia is now active government policy in the state-run health system in Holland. The cost of keeping a patient alive is too high? Pull the plug.
It's the kind of law the nazis would have loved.
