I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis. Today, a final election wrap, courtesy of a voters poll conducted by Public Opinion Strategies and the Mellman Group.
Voters were asked to identify the most important issue facing the country. And it wasn't always the economy, stupid.
Eleven percent said it was the decline in moral values; that was ahead of social security and education, and more than double the number who said the cost of health care.
When asked to name the one or two issues, other than character or other personal concerns, that decided their vote for president, 24 percent said social security, and 23 percent education. A substantial 16 percent named abortion.
Finally, thirty-two percent of voters believe the private sector is doing, or would do, an excellent or very good job of running the health care system. Only 18 percent would trust the Federal Government to do the same.
Interesting data. Now if the Government would just listen.
