Focus Point – French Communists Get it Right

I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis. My hat's off to the French Communist party.

No, there's nothing wrong with your radio.

Members of Europe's last major communist party are voting on a report condemning its activities over the last 80 years.

The report concludes communism oppressed rather than liberated humanity, and treated difference of opinion as deviation and betrayal. It says French Communists kept quiet as the Soviets repressed groups within the Soviet Union and in Eastern Europe, even such a flagrant and bloody exercise as the Stalin purges. They condemn themselves for criticizing democracy and the rule of law.

Now, given this example, what's the chance the American left could do the same by voting on a report condemning its mistakes of the past sixty years: (1) Johnson's destructive welfare programs that undermined marriage and prevented women from working; (2) the 90% tax rates of the 60s and 70s; and (3) Clinton's perjury and deceit in office. If the French Communists can do it, can't the American left?

Those are my ideas, and at the NCPA we know ideas can change the world. I'm Pete du Pont. Next time, better drugs prices for dogs than you.
