Focus Point – Jesse Jackson

I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis.

It's official. Jesse Jackson has finally gone over the edge. It was bad enough that Jackson railed against punishing kids who started a riot in the stands at a football game.

But then, when the green bay packers fired head coach Ray Rhodes, Jackson demanded from green bay general manager ray wolf an explanation why Rhodes was fired, complaining that it must have been because he was black.

It almost doesn't bear mentioning that this is none of Jackson's business. Or that if the Packers were a bunch of racists they wouldn't have hired Rhodes in the first place. It does bear mentioning that the Packers were awful this year, and when teams are awful, coaches get fired.

Anyhow, Rhodes ran the Philadelphia Eagles into the ground. Now he's doing it to the Packers. Truth is, he's a lousy coach who ought to be fired.

Jackson isn't just playing the race card. He's beyond the fringe on this one.

Those are my ideas, and at the NCPA we know ideas can change the world. I'm Pete du Pont. Next time George W. Bush.
