Focus Point – Labor Self-Destructs

I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis. I had to laugh about big labor's snippy reaction to some House Democrats' vote for free trade with China.

Labor has decided to cut off donations and volunteers to those who voted for China trade. Of course, labor is a key element in the Democrats' strategy. Labor can coerce donations from union members to give to anyone they want, and Democrats will need every vote this year to take back control of the house. But if one of their biggest boosters picks up its ball and goes home, that's going to be a problem.

A teamster was quoted as saying he feels like labor's taken for granted by the Democrats. Well, of course it is. Labor got in bed with the Democrats decades ago. So now labor's going to pull the money plug on 73 Democrats just because of one vote? I doubt it, but I love it. My only question is, what else could the congress do to make them mad?

Those are my ideas, and at the NCPA we know ideas can change the world. I'm Pete du Pont. Next time, welfare reform successes.
