I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis. How embarrassing it was for New Jersey democrats to find themselves voting against the Declaration of Independence.
A brief story in the Wall Street Journal spelled out their dilemma.
Jersey democrats first supported a bill calling for school children to follow the Pledge of Allegiance with the opening passage of the Declaration of Independence.
The offending language? "We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
Apparently, somebody got to the New Jersey democrats. They wound up voting against the bill after a debate in which the Declaration of Independence was determined to be anti-black, anti-government, and too close to god.
Politically incorrect, so they voted no.
Which I hope Jersey voters will remember when they go to the polls next month.
