I agree with a friend who said afterwards, "Really, how can you take anything he says seriously?" and it's true; the great prevaricator has so demeaned himself that he's hard to believe on any subject.
On the other hand, I do take him seriously when he talks about spending money. As Phil Gramm put it, "Only president Clinton could propose $300 billion in new spending programs while simultaneously calling for a reduction in the National debt.
Billions for Medicare, the largest federal health initiative since Medicare was created in 1965 — when privatizing health care would be more effective. Billions for tiny targeted tax cuts which are income redistribution — when real, across the board cuts would really help. Billions for education — when it's a local issue.
Bill Clinton wants your money to spend on his agenda. Here's hoping he spends a quiet last year as the lamest of lame ducks.
