I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis. Did you read about the Los Angeles teachers union's call for a strike? When you hear the facts, you'll know why school choice is inevitable.
The union wants to strike to protest a pay increase for teachers whose students show improvement.
L.A. officials want to give all teachers a ten percent pay bump, but give an extra six percent to those whose students do better on test scores and who improve their own skills. Oh, the effrontery of it! The teachers want an across-the-board fifteen percent raise for everybody, even though L.A. student performance is below the state average.
Mind you, L.A. officials aren't talking about firing incompetents, simply rewarding teachers who get results but the union continues to stand blindly against the tide, and it's going to wash over them. That's because parents want the best for their children, and choice in the form of vouchers, charter schools, or at the very least paying good teachers more, is coming. Whether the unions want it or not.
