February 2, 1999 — The Honorable George Allen, former Governor of Virginia (1994-98) and a Distinguished Fellow at the National Center for Policy Analysis, will address an international gathering of free-market leaders at a luncheon at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel in Dallas on Friday, February 5.
The only gubernatorial candidate in Virginia history to receive more than one million votes, Governor Allen distinguished himself by attracting $14 billion in new investments that led to Virginia's new reputation as the "Silicon Dominion." He also enacted tax and regulatory policies that helped create 312,000 net new private sector jobs, replaced Virginia's failed welfare system with landmark reforms, abolished the lenient parole system, transformed the juvenile justice system and introduced rigorous academic standards with testing for accreditation to the state education system.
"George Allen revolutionized Virginia's state government in a number of ways," said NCPA President John Goodman. "We hope his story will inspire attendees and provide them with powerful ideas to take back home."
Governor Allen's appearance is part of a two-day conference of free-market economists, scholars and writers from around the world co-sponsored by the National Center for Policy Analysis and the Virginia-based Atlas Economic Research Foundation. A gala dinner February 6, featuring Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman and his wife, Rose, will mark the 15th Anniversary of the NCPA.
The luncheon with Governor Allen will be 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in the Monet Ballroom at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel.
