Harry C. Alford

As president, CEO, and co-founder of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, Harry C. Alford has established himself as a champion of African-American business empowerment. Mr. Alford has opened doors to billions of dollars in new business for black business owners throughout the nation. He has helped to forge international business opportunities for African-Americans and emerging entrepreneurs in Africa, the Caribbean and South America.
After earning top honors as a Company Commander in the Army's Officer Candidate School, Mr. Alford served in a series of key sales and executive positions with Fortune 100 companies such as Procter & Gamble, Johnson & Johnson and the Sara Lee Corporation. He served in the public sector as the minority business development point person in Indiana Governor Evan Bayh's administration, increasing minority business participation in the state by more than 500 percent.
Mr. Alford was named the US Department of Commerce's Region 5 Minority Business Advocate of the Year for 1991 and was ranked #5 on Fortune Small Business magazine's "Power 30" list of Washington, D.C.'s most influential small business advocates.
Mr. Alford currently serves as the Board of Directors of the United States Chamber of Commerce, is a member of the National Advisory Council, Small Business Administration, and serves on the Board of Directors for the National 4H Council. He is regularly called upon by Congress to testify on various legislative initiatives related to small business development, e-commerce and global trade issues.
The National Center for Policy Analysis is a public policy research institute founded in 1983 and internationally known for its studies on public policy issues. The NCPA is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, with an office in Washington, D.C.
