In Memoriam: Frederick R. “Fred” Meyer, 1927-2012

Fred Meyer, a long-time supporter of the NCPA, passed away yesterday at the age of 84. Fred’s productive tenure on the NCPA Board of Directors enabled the NCPA to log many notable and significant achievements, such as Health Savings Accounts, Roth IRAs, Social Security reform and automatic 401(k) enrollment. Without Fred’s untiring support and his steadfast belief in private sector and free-market solutions, these achievements would not have been possible.

Fred served as Chairman of the Republican Party of Dallas County for seven years when Republicans grew from 12% to almost 80% of the elected officials in the county. He was State Chairman for the Republican Party of Texas from 1988 to 1994 during the time Republicans became the dominant party of Texas. Fred made thousands of friends during his political years, including four Presidents.

The lives of all those who met, served and worked with Fred are richer for it, and we are deeply saddened by his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Fred’s wonderful wife, Barbara, and all his family.
