January 28, 1999 — What choices do we have to reform education for our kids? The answer to this and other issues surrounding education will be addressed by an international panel of experts assembling in Dallas February 5 and 6.
Education Reform: Perspectives on Theory and Implementation is part of a two-day conference at the Wyndam Anatole Hotel cosponsored by the National Center for Policy Analysis and the Virginia-based Atlas Economic Research Foundation. The world's leading free-market economists, writers and educators will gather to discuss numerous public policy challenges common to countries around the globe.
The panel on education reform will feature:
Michael Semin, director of the Civic Institute in Prague, Czech Republic, and a leading authority on education and privatization;
Cristian Larroulet, a former cabinet minister in the Chilean government who has helped reform state-run schools;
Lawrence Reed, president of the Mackinac Center in Michigan, the impetus behind many of that state's education improvements;
Fritz Steiger, president of CEO America, an organization devoted to promoting more choice in the U.S. public school system.
The panel discussion will take place from 1:45 to 3:15 p.m., February 5 in the Monte Carlo Theater at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel.
Other panels at the conference will address how to reform entitlement programs, profiles of heroes of the free-market movement and methods of marketing pro-free enterprise ideas. The conference marks the 15th Anniversary of the National Center for Policy Analysis. A gala dinner on the evening of February 6 will feature Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman and his wife Rose.
