James A. Baker, III, who served as secretary of state under George Bush, secretary of the treasury under Ronald Reagan, and under secretary of commerce for Gerald Ford, will participate in "A Conversation with NCPA President John Goodman," May 21, 2001.

Mr. Baker's other political endeavors include the presidential campaigns for Presidents Ford, Reagan and Bush. He is the recipient of many prestigious awards including the 1991 Presidential Medal of Freedom, Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson Award, Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government Award, the Department of the Treasury's Alexander Hamilton Award, the Department of State's Distinguished Service Award, and numerous honorary academic degrees.

James Baker is honorary chairman of the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University and serves on the boards of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Rice University, Princeton University, and a number of other nonprofit organizations.
