Experts to Answer Questions About Choice, Offer Roadmap For Reform

WASHINGTON — As a positive consensus is beginning to form between Republicans and Democrats over most of President Bush's education reform plan, there appears to be only one main area of contention: school choice.

The National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) and Children First America (CFA) will hold a one-day conference on reform of the public schools. Speakers will address different aspects of the issue and will highlight their contribution to An Education Agenda: Let Parents Choose Their Children's School, the new book with an introduction by Lynne Cheney. Some of the topics to be discussed at the conference include:

  • The latest research from Harvard on how choice affects student performance.
  • How school choice affected one (public) elementary school.
  • How a school choice program affected an entire (public) school district.
  • A report from the state with the most charter schools.
  • A behind-the-scenes report from the lawyer who argues most voucher cases.
  • How tax credits can achieve the same results as vouchers.
