WASHINGTON (January 28, 2000) — Why do many seniors lack insurance coverage for prescription drugs? Is there a way to give them prescription drug coverage without costing the taxpayers more money? If we do add a prescription drug benefit, should it be added to the current Medicare program, or should it be a part of comprehensive Medicare reform? These are just a few of the questions to be discussed in a briefing sponsored by the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA).
At the briefing, Public Health Subcommittee Chairman Sen. Bill Frist (R-TN) will discuss the Breaux-Frist-Kerrey-Hagel Medicare reform plan. Sen. Frist was a member of the National Bipartisan Commission on the Future of Medicare and is a medical doctor.
The briefing will also include a panel discussion chaired by NCPA President John C. Goodman. Participants will include NCPA Senior Fellow Robert Goldberg, and Mark Litow from Milliman & Robertson, a leading health care actuarial firm. At the briefing, the NCPA will release a new Milliman & Robertson study which offers a way to provide prescription drug coverage without adding to the government's current costs.
