NCPA Expert Appluads Murkowski’s Action To Halt EPA Regulation

Dallas, TX

NCPA Senior Fellow H. Sterling Burnett applauds Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) for her efforts to block the EPA's authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

"Any regulation that the EPA passes mandating the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions would amount to the largest regulation of interstate commerce, quite possibly since laws mandating a minimum wage on workers was passed," said Burnett.

"Regulation on greenhouse gases may be one of the most far reaching and expensive regulations ever imposed by the EPA, and it's clear that nothing the EPA proposes will reduce overall emissions or prevent future harm," Burnett continues.

"It's very unlikely that greenhouse gas emissions endanger human health based on scientific evidence; but even if it did, greenhouse gas controls are not in the hands of the U.S. but in the hands of China, India, Brazil and other fast growing economies in the developing world, none of which would be affected by the EPA's regulations," Burnett said.

Senator Murkowski's resolution allows for breathing room and puts a halt on the Obama administration's attempted extortion: "pass a cap-and-trade bill or else the EPA will do something much worse."

"If Senator Murkowski's resolution does not pass we will be subject to accepting bad policies just to avoid worse ones," Burnett said. "The Democratic leadership in the House and Senate should be ashamed of themselves for backing the President's strong arm tactics. It's time to put American's first and environmental extremists last."
