NCPA President Testifies on Resolving U.S. Health Crisis
DALLAS, TX (April 1, 2009) – NCPA President and CEO John C. Goodman will testify tomorrow on cost-control and patient access solutions before the House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Health in Washington, D.C.
Dubbed "The Father of Health Savings Accounts" by The Wall St. Journal, Goodman said the biggest problem with the nation's health care systems are the perverse financial incentives that force doctors into an outmoded, wasteful payment system designed for a different century.
"To confront America's health care crisis, we do not need more spending, more regulations or more bureaucracy," said Goodman. "What we do need are people, including every doctor and every patient. Every American must be free to use their intelligence, their creativity and their innovative ability to make the changes needed to create access to low-cost, high-quality health care."
Goodman points out that health care is the only major industry in the U.S. that, with only a few rare exceptions, does not compete to meet customer needs.
