Pros and Cons of Common Core: NCPA

Source: NCPA

To update today’s NCPA Common Core report, National Center for Policy Analysis Interim President and CEO Dennis McCuistion recently interviewed a panel of experts on the formation and implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). CCSS, the experts say, were initially created to ensure consistent, high standards across states and provide clear expectations so all students, regardless of where they live in the US, graduate from high school with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in college, career and life.

The standards, which were created by state education chiefs and governors in 48 states, were meant to serve as a clear framework to ensure that American students graduated from high school college- and career-ready. Yet there is strong – and growing – backlash against full implementation of the Common Core standards.

In his interview, McCuistion and his experts discuss the pros, cons, and controversy surrounding Common Core to figure out what must happen to raise the standard of US education nationwide.
