Stephen Hayward

Stephen HaywardStephen F. Hayward is the F. K. Weyerhaeuser Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he researches the environment, law, political economy, and the presidency. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy.

He is author of the annual Index of Leading Environmental Indicators, published jointly by the American Enterprise Institute and the Pacific Research Institute. He also recently released The Age of Reagan: The Fall of the Old Liberal Order, 1964-1980.

He has previously held the position of Henry Salvatori Fellow and Bradley Fellow at the Heritage Foundation. He was a member of the California Departmental Transportation Advisory Committee from 1996-2001; a contributing editor of Reason magazine from 1990-2001; a public interest member of the California Citizens Compensation Commission from 1990-1995; the director of the Golden State Center for Policy Studies from 1987-1991; executive director, Inland Business Magazine, 1985-1990; the Richard M. Weaver Fellow at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute from 1985-1986; and the director of journalism at the Public Research Syndicated (media subsidiary), Claremont Institute from 1984-1987.

He received a Ph.D. in American studies and a M.A. of government from the Claremont Graduate School, and a B.S. in business and administrative studies from Lewis and Clark College.
