How does America move forward into 2016 and beyond with an effective and viable national security plan? Former Congressman and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Allen West has outlined the crucial next steps the U.S. should take to protect our nation from the threat of encroaching terrorism and destroying the growth of violent Islamic jihadist organizations overseas. West is president & CEO of the National Center for Policy Analysis.
In the latest issue of Military Review, Lt. Col. West proposes a clear American strategy for conquering organizations such as ISIS, al-Qaida, al-Nusra, Hamas, Hezbollah, Taliban, al-Aqsa Martyrs, Abu Sayyaf and others.
This would entail implementing four strategic imperatives:
- Denying the enemy sanctuary. Committing to enemy-oriented rather than terrain-oriented operations is imperative.
- Cutting off the supply of men, materials and resources. Finding and severing the enemy’s transit routes would cripple their communications and support.
- Winning the information war. American reticence to castigate an enemy in a negative light is standing between us and success.
- Reducing their sphere of influence. Cordoning off the exportation of Islamic jihadism is key to shrinking the enemy’s territory.
West warns the current state of the American military is at a historically unprepared level to face the challenges of defeating terrorism. He says the armed forces are under-manned, under-equipped and under-funded.
