Ward Connerly, Chairman the American Civil Rights Institute, is most noted for his recent efforts to extinguish race-based decisions as a means for college admissions at the University of California system and elsewhere. Connerly gained national respect as an outspoken advocate of equal opportunity for everyone, regardless of race or sex, while serving as chairman of the California Civil Rights Initiative campaign, better known as California's Proposition 209.

Mr. Connerly's visit is most timely as Texas Attorney General John Cornyn debates reversing the Hopwood decision, which ended affirmative action preferences at the University of Texas system.
